UW Castalia

Castalia is a reading series featuring graduate student, faculty, and alumni writers from the University of Washington’s Creative Writing Program, which offers a two-year Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing (MFA) with tracks in poetry and prose. Castalia reading events, hosted monthly at the Hugo House, are free and open to the public. Each event showcases the writing of two currently-enrolled MFA candidates, one member of the faculty, and one or more alumni of the Creative Writing Program. Castalia provides an opportunity for these writers, unpublished and published alike, to share (and practice sharing) their work within the broader community of writers and artists Seattle hosts. Begun in 1970 by Professor Nelson Bentley, Castalia celebrated its 50th season in 2020, virtually, amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. For more information about the reading series, or the legacy of Professor Bentley Castalia carries on, visit: https://artsci.washington.edu/news/2012-01/castalia-reading-series-then-now.
