Special Offer: Jericho Brown’s Writing the Duplex
We know that a lot of you really wanted to attend Jericho Brownâs 90-minute class, Writing the Duplexâso weâd like to offer you an opportunity to view a recording of the class.
The recording will be available to view on our platform for two weeksâfrom 10 am on Thursday, June 24, until 5 pm on Thursday, July 8. You wonât be able to download or save it, but you will be able to learn directly from Jericho, plus get access to the writing prompts he shared with his students.
We ask that you donât share this page with folks who didn’t attend Jerichoâs Word Works talk or werenât on the waitlist for his class.
Because the class cost $90 for students to attend, weâve included a âSuggested Donationâ ticket price of $50. You can also donate more on the checkout page if youâd like. The link will be emailed to you by EOD on the day you register. If itâs a weekend, youâll receive the link on Monday.
If you’d like to watch it right away, please email your ticket receipt to lily@hugohouse.org.
About the Class
In this 90-minute class, Jericho Brown will lead students through an exercise for writing a duplex poemâa form he invented that blends the ghazal, the sonnet, and the blues. Each student should bring 14 disparate lines of 9â11 syllables to class. Lines may be from sentences of the studentâs own prose or lines from poems that havenât worked. No two lines have to be from the same source or time. Each student should come to workshop with each line on its own small sliver of paper. Students will leave class with a new process and a new poem.
