Are you passionate about literary arts? Do you enjoy working with a team to further an organization’s mission?
We are looking to expand our board of directors with new members from our community. Our board is specifically hoping to add members with skills in Finance, Fundraising, Accounting, Audits, or Communications. If this sounds like you, please consider applying.
Hugo House is a nonprofit literary arts organization that aims to open the literary world to everyone who loves books or has the drive to write. We strive to create a place where that vision comes to life. Where experienced writers become teachers, sharing the craft with new writers. Where passionate readers gather to discuss a new novel. Where writers find quiet corners to hone their ideas. Where communities converge to hear new talents and literary stars. The mission of Hugo House is to give people a place to read words, hear words, and make their own words better.
Our board members are dedicated volunteers who contribute 5 to 10 hours of their time each month to help guide and support our mission. As a member of the board of directors, your responsibilities would be:
- supporting the mission of the organization and understanding its collective purpose
- selecting, supporting, and evaluating the performance of the executive director
- strategic and organizational planning
- ensuring strong fiduciary oversight and financial management
- fundraising and resource development
- enhancing the organization’s public image
- assessing the board’s own performance as the governing body of the organization
- ensuring legal and ethical integrity
We believe that a variety of perspectives and experiences strengthens our organization, so we strongly encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds to apply.
We value board members who can contribute in different ways, whether through their expertise, experience, or resources. While financial support is important, we equally appreciate those who bring wisdom, work, and a collaborative spirit to help Hugo House thrive.
