Doorways to the Young Adult Novel [Karen Finneyfrock]
This class is for writers in some stage of working on a novel for young adults, anywhere from initial concept to final draft. Using the four doorways into story—language, character, story and setting—we’ll investigate successful approaches to writing novels for young adults. Readings will include Meg Rosoff, Maggie Stiefvater, M.T. Anderson, Elizabeth Wein, and Daniel Handler (aka Lemony Snicket). Expect exercises and generative opportunities in class. Each student will have one opportunity to share work and receive feedback.
