In this class, we will set our intentions to engage love as a "practice," through writing epistolary poems, journal prompts, and mini memoirs. We will incorporate meditative techniques and breathing exercises. We will use All About Love by bell hooks, Mama Phife Represents by Cheryl Boyce-Taylor, and Life's Companion Journal: Writing as a Spiritual Quest by Christina Baldwin along with other amazing reads as our foundation and guides. Text will be provided by the instructor.

Naa Akua, is a New York-born poet, actor, educator, and sound-word practitioner who is Ghanaian/Bajan and queer. Akua uses the vibratory energy of sound and the intent of words as a vehicle towards healing. Akua, former 2019 Citizen University Poet-in-Residence is a Writers in the Schools (Seattle Arts & Lectures) Writer-in-Residence at Franklin High School, Hugo House teacher, and Young Women Empowered (Y-WE) youth facilitator. www.naaakua.com
