Love and Theft
If style is the carriage of the mind, as some writers have said, then great writing must be like Grand Theft Auto. In this generative class, we’ll examine the styles of writers we love. Then we’ll break into their garages (metaphorically) and take their cars out for a spin. We’ll learn to take what we love in the service of writing poems that perfect strangers will love and want to take from. We’ll look at poems by Dean Young, Tony Hoagland, Julianna Baggot, James Arthur, and Catherine Wing, as well as your favorite poems.
