Memoir Writing: Writing the Good, Bad, and Ugly Self Section II [Suzanne Morrison]
The best memoirists delve deeply into their most vulnerable moments, their most humiliating flaws, their gravest regrets—and we love them for it. Memoirs focused exclusively on the sins of others get thrown across the room. We’ll look at how to cultivate the honesty and courage required to dive into our weaknesses. We’ll read examples from Lauren Slater, Jonathan Ames, and Tobias Wolff. How do we explore our worst selves without alienating the reader? And, perhaps harder, how do we explore our good sides?
