Poetry Matters [Jourdan Keith]
Many women, people of color, and LGBTQ folks find that our relationship with the rest of the natural world and environmental concerns seem to be other than those expressed by the dominant environmental movement. But a shift is occurring, as demonstrated by memoirs such as Lauret Savoy’s Trace, as well as persona and witness poems such as “Once I Was Told the Air Was Not for Breathing” by Paola Corso and others. Your culture history, personal life, and environmental headlines are the tributaries for this poetry workshop. We will use visual prompts, creative dialogue, and news stories to generate three new poems.
