Radical Essays and Personal Opinions [Madeline Ostrander]
Introductory/Intermediate | Opinion-writing is one of the most powerful vehicles for using personal stories to inspire change. In this generative class, we’ll practice mining our experiences in order to craft opinion pieces that humanize our convictions. We’ll draw inspiration from writers like Rebecca Solnit, Bill McKibben, Ta-Nehisi Coates, and Timothy Egan and from Louise Dunlap’s book, Undoing the Silence, about overcoming barriers that make us reluctant to speak out. Students will develop a draft of an opinion piece, essay, or pitch.
