Renaming the Spiritual [Anne Kellor]
Many of us consider ourselves to be spiritual, yet what do we mean by this word? Spiritual experiences and beliefs are amongst the most difficult subjects to convey through words – especially in prose. In this class, we will explore themes such as roots, ritual, impermanence, and compassion through a series of free-writing exercises. We will read from writers such as Brenda Miller, Terry Tempest Williams, and Naomi Shihab Nye and discuss how to avoid falling into the realm of abstractions or clichés.
