Turning Ancestral Research into Narrative [Katie Lee Ellison]
Intermediate | In this class, we’ll build stories of ourselves from letters, photographs, public records, doctors’ prescriptions, dating profiles, and other sources via study of Audre Lorde’s Zami: A New Spelling of My Name, Porochista Khakpour’s Brown Album, Sophia Shalmiyev’s Mother Winter, Elissa Washuta’s My Body is a Book of Rules, and E. J. Koh’s The Magical Language of Others. We’ll combine primary sources and form (translation, fragment, collage, footnotes, timestamps) in service to the nuances of our stories and identities.
