Writing alongside Charles Baudelaire [Deborah Woodard]

All Levels | Read the poetry and prose of Charles Baudelaire. Called “a god” by Rimbaud, Baudelaire was a master of symbolism and Romantic verse, a chronicler of the underbelly of urban streets, and one of the pioneers of the modern prose poem. Weekly prompts and in-class readarounds will help us make Baudelaire our own. Required texts: The Flowers of Evil by Charles Baudelaire, trans. Keith Waldrop; Paris Spleen by Charles Baudelaire, trans. Louise Varese.
