International Award winning author, poet, and artist Xánath Caraza will read from her bilingual poetry collection, Sílabas de viento/Syllables of Wind and Conjuro: Exploring Linguistic Diversity among Latin@s. Local writers Catalina M. Cantú and Jose Carrillo from Los Norteños NW Latino Writers will read their own work. Emcee is Kristen Millares Young. The bar will be open and Ms. Caraza’s books will be available for sale.

Xanath CarazaAbout Xánath Caraza

Xánath Caraza’s bilingual poetry and short story collections are Sílabas de viento/Syllables of Wind (2014), Noche de Colibríes: Ekphrastic Poems (2014), Lo que trae la marea/What the Tide Brings (2013), Conjuro (2012), and Corazón Pintado: Ekphrastic Poems (2012). She writes the column “US Latino Poets en español.” Caraza is a writer for La Bloga and for Revista Zona de Ocio, and teaches at the University of Missouri—Kansas City (UMKC). She is an advisory circle member of the Con Tinta literary organization.


Catalina Cantu headshot 9083 copy Catalina Marie Cantú is a multi-genre author and investigator of our multi-cultural world. Her poem “Reflexiones en Casa/Reflections on Home” was selected for the 2014-15 King County Poetry on Buses. Catalina’s prose and poetry have been heard at Pacific Northwest bookstores, libraries, universities, and The Miracle Theatre in Portland. She is a graduate of the Artist Trust EDGE Literary Professional Development Program, a member and former chair of Los Norteños NW Latino Writers Group, and a founding member of La Sala Latino/a artists. Catalina is currently at work on a young-adult adventure series steeped in Mexican mythology and folklore.


n1275420994_30062205_9871 Jose Carrillo is a Mexican Aztec-American son of the sun—a musician, actor, and poet born in Durango, Mexico, 1932. He grew up in San Francisco and earned a BA in theater at SF State University. His resume lists over sixty years of acting in live theater, playing woodwinds in jazz and salsa bands, and writing poetry. He’s at work on a bilingual, English-Spanish chapbook of this year’s poems.
