FAQ

When will I receive my Zoom login information?

We will send out the Zoom information three days in advance of your class. Look for an email from welcome@hugohouse.org

How do I log on to Zoom?

All the information to join the meeting is contained in the email. You can follow the URL or sign in through the Zoom website or app using the meeting ID and password. There is also a phone-in number for those who need it. You do not need a Zoom account to join a call.

My connection isn’t working well. How do I fix it?

Turn off the video function on the bottom bar of the screen. It is a movie camera icon, the second from the left. Using audio only should improve the connection.

I would like to see captions. How do I enable those?

On your menu bar, click Live Transcript (if you don’t see that option, click More and then live transcript) and then Show Subtitle. If you do not have the option to view Live Transcript, please send a chat to your teacher and ask them to enable it. You can also send a note before class to registrar@hugohouse.org to make sure it’s enabled beforehand.

I can’t see all my classmates. How can I see everyone at the same time?

In the top right corner, click on Gallery View. This lets you see the whole group.

My audio isn’t working. How do I fix it?

There is a microphone icon in the bottom left corner of the screen. Click on it and select “Join with Computer Audio.” This should turn your microphone on. We recommend keeping your microphone muted when others are talking. This helps cut down on noise and lets you and your classmates focus on the instructor.

How do I get my teacher’s attention?

In most classes, your teacher will be able to see everyone and you can simply raise your hand, as you would in a regular class, when you want to share. If you have your video off, or if you’re in a larger class, you can use the raise hand function. To do that, click on the “Participants” button on the bottom bar of your screen. On the right side of the screen, you’ll see a white box with all your classmates’ names. At the bottom of this box, there should be an option to “Raise Your Hand.” Click that to let your teacher know you’d like to share.

My Zoom screen says the host has another meeting in progress. How do I fix that?

Like in our physical space, our Zoom channels may have a class running before or after your session. Your teacher should open up your class five minutes before the start time. If you still see this message when the class start time has begun, please call in at 206.322.7030.

Which time zone are the virtual classes in?

All our classes take place in Pacific Time (PDT).
