Zoom Classes: Frequently Asked Questions

Never taken a class using Zoom before?

Don’t worry! We’re here to help.

Below, we’ve compiled a list of the questions we get asked most frequently about using Zoom. If your question isn’t on this list, please write us at welcome@hugohouse.org or call us at 206.322.7030, and we’ll be more than happy to answer it.

FAQ

When will I receive my Zoom login information?

Three days before class, we’ll post the Zoom information to your Hugo House account dashboard and send it to the email we have on file. Look for an email from welcome@hugohouse.org.

How do I join my class on Zoom?

Click the Zoom link in your class email or account dashboard and follow the prompts to join. You can also open the Zoom app, select Join, and enter the meeting ID and passcode provided in your email.

To join by phone, use the dial-in number and instructions in the email. You do not need a Zoom account to attend our classes.

My connection is slow or unstable. What can I do?

Try turning off your camera by clicking the camera icon in the meeting toolbar. Using audio only may improve your connection.

I would like to see captions. How do I enable those?

Select Show captions or the CC icon in the meeting toolbar. If you don’t see it, check the More menu.

How can I see my classmates?

On a computer, click the display icon in the top right corner of the Zoom window. It resembles three squares sitting atop a rectangle. Gallery view will display multiple participants at once.

My audio isn’t working. What do I do?

If you haven’t connected your audio, select Join Audio, then Join with Computer Audio or the equivalent option for your device.

If you still can’t hear or be heard, open the menu beside the microphone or Audio button on the bottom toolbar and check that the correct microphone and speaker are selected.

If your microphone icon has a line through it, click it to unmute.

How do I get my instructor’s attention?

Follow your teacher’s guidance for questions and discussion. You can raise your hand on camera or use Zoom’s Raise Hand feature.

To raise your hand in Zoom, open React or Reactions from the bottom toolbar and select Raise Hand. If you don’t see that option, check More. Select Lower Hand when you’re finished.

My Zoom screen says the host has another meeting in progress. How do I fix that?

Another class may still be using the Zoom meeting room. Your teacher should open your session five minutes before the scheduled start time.

Wait a few minutes, then try joining again. If you still see this message at your class’s scheduled start time, send us an email.

Which time zone are the virtual classes in?

All class times are listed in Pacific Time.
