Summer Write-In with Write Our Democracy

On June 22, join Write Our Democracy for a Summer Write-In.

Unlike typical readings, the “Write-In” provides the space to write and respond to the readings and materials to reach out to local and national politicians. With readings by some of the Northwest’s finest, this event focuses on highlighting the issues that are immediate to our region, including environmental politics, gentrification, and city sprawl.

Originally founded as Writers Resist, the original movement grew after poet Erin Belieu posted on Facebook: “We will not give in to despair. We will come together and actively help make the world we want to live in. We are bowed, but we are not broken.”

As part of our work to continue to come together as a community, this reading and writing series provides the space as well as materials to speak out, write out, and act out to defend the free, just, and compassionate ideals of democracy. It’s the opportunity to engage and connect with writers and readers in our region trying to find the means to respond to today’s world.
