Write Time is a free weekly drop-in writing circle for teens. Led by renowned local poet, spoken word artist, and young adult novelist Karen Finneyfrock, Write Time is open to all writers ages 13-19.
This may be the most inspiring hour of your week. Bring something you’re working on and nail down your next sentence during open writing. Improve your craft and learn new techniques during brief opening lessons from amazing local writers. Or simply come to share your work with other young writers and get feedback.
– New for Fall 2018 –
Some aspects of story-craft touch every genre. Some bits of craft are much more particular about their surroundings, latching onto a specific genre and refusing to work for anyone else. This fall, Karen will concentrate 3 sessions around these more elusive bits of craft and bring them into Focus.
Fantasy Focus – Writing modern fantasy requires reinvention. After reading fantasy for inspiration, we will reimagine an element of classical fantasy to make it new.
Memoir Focus – Writing about real life takes creativity! We will read from Claire Dederer’s Love and Trouble and then write a short piece of memoir about a place in Seattle.
Flash Fiction Focus – Writing very short fiction requires vivid sparks of language. We will read and then practice this condensed style of storytelling.
